Unisame urges the creation of a free legal aid committee for SMEs

KARACHI: The Union of Small and Medium Enterprises (Unisame) has called for the establishment of a free legal aid committee in the absence of a delayed Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) ombudsman, a statement said on Saturday .

To enable SMEs to obtain free legal assistance for the protection of their legal rights, Unisame has urged the Director General of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (Smeda), Hashim Raza, to set up the committee in the absence of an SME mediator delayed.

Unisame Chairman Zulfikar Thaver said SMEs are not comfortable as their rights are denied and they receive heavy handed and neglectful treatment from some government agency officials.

There are officers who are extremely nice and good but few officers behave rudely for no reason, he said, due to which sector demands SME ombudsman and SME policy 2021 as promised, said he added.

Since the implementation of the policy would take a long time, it is better to set up the legal committee, Thaver said, while proposing a free legal aid committee to help the sector obtain legal assistance and to obtain remedies against injustice, corruption and authoritarianism by public officials with the help of a free legal aid committee run by Unisame and also including officers from the legal department of Smeda.

The members of the Unisame Council are fortunate to have among their members leading experienced lawyers who have offered to voluntarily assist in the establishment and operation of the free legal aid committee for SMEs, he said. he declares.

The head of Unisame said many complaints have been received from entrepreneurs and members have suggested the establishment of an SME Police Liaison Committee (SME-LC) modeled on the CPLC.

In this regard, he said, Unisame has an old authorization granted during the time of President Musharaff to establish and lead a Rahnuma committee modeled on the Khidmat committee.

The Unisame Council also urged the government to implement the SME policy and to set up and establish all the institutions envisaged therein.
